Hari Raya - The Beauty of Traditional Clothes



 






 

Malay is the most prominent ethnic group in Malaysia. Pakaian is the word for clothing in the official language. The traditional dress is different for males and females and traditional clothes that Malay’s are wearing is called Baju Melayu for men and Baju kurung for women.

     
  

Men

The traditional attire of Malay men is called baju melayu, which is a loose tunic paired with trousers and a sarong which is known as sampin. Men also wear the traditional hat, called songkok or kopiah with it. Some men prefer wearing batik shirts with trousers.

 


Women

The ancient traditional dress knee-length, full-blouse and a long skirt Malay women was kemban,  which included sarongs tied above the chest. The current traditional dress for women is baju kurung, which comprises of a called kain. The skirt is pleated on one side. This attire is usually accompanied by a scarf on thehead. A semi formal version is the kebaya, which is a skin-fit two piece costume.

 

We usually will wearing our traditional clothes during Hari Perayaan for example Eid al- fitri and Eid al- Adha. Dispite everything our traditional clothes also can be worn during daily day. Thus, because of our Baju kurung nowsaday have been modernized, there’s two category of Baju Kurung one is known as ‘Baju Kurung Klasic’ which the classic pattern and design that people’s in 18th and 19th have been used and ‘Baju Kurung Modern’ which people’s now included lace, princess cutting and etc during the process of making the clothes itself. Therefore, you will see varieties of design and colours of Baju Kurung in the market these days.
